Castles & Fairytales in Pre-School

As our theme is Castles and Fairytales this term the children have been taking part in some fun activities.  They have had to critically think when planning and building their own castle using lego. To help with their turn taking skills the children played a traditional game with a twist. Pi the tail on the dragon, they really had fun with this.  Our last activity was ‘Medievals Olympics’ the children had to throw javelins and Wellingtons so see how far they would travel and to finish off they all took par in a game of tug of war. What fun we have had this week whilst learning.

It's all about growing in Nursery

This week we have continued our growing theme by focusing our learning on the story 'Oliver's Vegetables'.  The children listened with interest to the story, and we investigated the vegetables within the story.  We spoke about the look, texture, our preferences and experiences with vegetables.

The children had the opportunity to weigh potatoes using our large scales.  We explored the weight of the potatoes in the buckets supporting the children to talk about heavy and light whilst balancing the scales.

We enjoyed planting our own vegetables in rows in a tray of compost and then printing them on paper.  Finally, the children engaged in drawing straight and circular vegetables.

Getting Creative With Stickmen In Pre-School

What a very busy week, we have been reading the story Stickman. The children have had fun collecting sticks from outdoors, then creating their very own Stickman, manipulating pipe cleaners to attach sticks together.  Using a bridge, the children threw their stick, and together we discussed which stick had travelled the furthest and which had travelled the shortest.  The children formed the letters of their name using sticks and mud, which was a fascinating media for them to explore.  In small groups scissors were used to cut out scenes from the Stickman story and the children constructed their own story map, talking about what happens through the story.  We also had fun celebrating with Pudsey Bear.  Decorating our own Pudsey.
