Grammar School Information
Detailed below are the standard procedure for applications for assessment (for entry into secondary in Year 7)
Specific dates are sent directly to parents and this should be treated as a general overview.
The forms should be completed online via the appropriate links. Please remember that application should not be sent to school.
Wirral (Calday, West KirbyGrammar School, Wirral Boys, Wirral Girls)
- Online registration for Year 6 assessment to attend a non-Catholic grammar school in Wirral normally opens on 1 May when the children are in Year 5.
- Please remember that parents should register their own child directly, this is not something that is done by school.
- No arrangements will be made to assess children if request forms are received after 31 May, unless they have moved to Wirral from outside of the borough.
- All children will take the assessment at a test centre. They will require proof of ID for your child before they can be assessed.
- The assessment comprises two papers taken on the same day. The assessment date will be September of Year 6. At the time of writing, the assessments will be provided by GL Assessment and will include questions on verbal reasoning, non-verbal reasoning, and mathematics.
Upton Hall FCJ
- All details are contained on the Upton Hall website. Please remember that parents should register their own child directly, this is not something that is done by school.
- The Entrance Examination will take place in September of Year 6
- A second date is normally available for those who missed the previous date through illness and pupils with special needs or disability.
- The Examination consists of two closed NFER tests in English and Verbal Reasoning. Each paper is timed to last for 50 minutes. There is a refreshment break between the papers, both of which are taken on the same morning. The papers are sent offsite for marking and an age-weighted allowance is made. The test scores are then added together and those girls who achieve 236 or more are deemed to have reached the required standard.
- The results of the test will be sent to parents in October of Year 6
St Anselm’s College
- Entrance Examination will take place in September (for entrance into Year 7 in the following year)
