Green Screens with Digital Wizards!
Year 2 had a fantastic time using Green Screens with Digital Wizards. They found images from their topic about the Titanic and then posed in front of the green screen, pretending they were there. Then they combined the images to create amazing special effects photographs.

Challenge Week
As part of our Challenge Week, Year 1 and Year 2 took part in an afternoon of physical trials. They worked cooperatively as team members and competitors in a variety of basic skills activities. They enjoyed relay running, jumping and chasing events using a variety of equipment.

Ness Gardens
Yesterday, the infants went on mass to Ness Gardens. The children thoroughly enjoyed exploring and the highlight was a pond dipping experience.
The weather was kind, neither too hot nor too cold and the children had a great time in the fresh air.

Busy Week!
To enrich our experiences in mental health week linked to movement, we have had an extended PE lesson developing skills. Then we had our 3rd beach school session making light houses. Finally, we had an outdoor science lesson identifying natural materials.

Our Second Beach School Session
Today, for their second Beach School session, the children arrived to the tide coming into shore, so they got to enjoy a quick paddle in the water, lots of fun and laughter was heard as they jumped back from the waves and back into the sea! They then used magnify glasses and binoculars to explore rocks, shells and the sand to search for fossils and other beach discoveries. Once the tide was further in, we safely carried on with our activities on the grass area. Today's experiment was predicting whether a large plastic bag or a small plastic bag would fly better in the breeze as a kite. The children carried out their experiment and agreed both worked well. The children certainly enjoyed testing and flying their kites!

"Lost and Found"
For our next text, we had a challenge to solve clues in a suitcase and predict the story title. The children thoroughly enjoyed it. At the end of the lesson, we revealed that our next text is ‘Lost and found’ by Oliver Jeffers.
Beach School Session 1!
Yesterday, Year 2 enjoyed our first beach school of the year. We checked the Beaufort scale and worked in groups to make flags and played a compass point game on the sand.
We had lots of fun and enjoyed the fresh spring air.

STEAM WEEK - Display
Year 2 worked very hard on their STEAM work project this week, looking at recycled and biodegradable material. Well done!

Beach Clean!
This afternoon, Year 2 took a trip to the beach. They were collecting litter and caring for our local environment. We will be using this data in our presentation for STEAM next week.

Gillmoss Recycling Centre
The children have been learning all about recycling and looking after our world, today they took an exciting trip to Gillmoss Recycling Centre, were they learnt all about the journey of recycling from our homes to it's final destination. The children helped to sort different materials into the correct recycling categories and then curiously watched through the windows at the tour of the materials recovery facility, here, they saw recycling in action! Finally they explored hands on activities and resources on how to help recycling, from litter picking to solving puzzles.

Creating Digital Music
This half-term, Year 2 have been learning how to use a computer to create music. We have listened to a variety of pieces of music and considered what music makes us think and feel. We experimented with lots of the fun activities on Chrome Music Lab and particularly enjoyed 'Spectrogram', 'Kandinsky' and 'Rhythm'. Finally, we created our own digital music using 'Song Maker' - Scan the QR codes to listen to some of our creations.

Coordination & Control Skills
In the PE lesson this week we were applying our coordination and control skills to small games. This promotes team spirit and working cooperatively with your peers.

Traditional Tales
For the past two weeks the Literacy focus in Year 2 has been Traditional tales. We have shared the text and completed comprehension tasks. We have also identified key features of Traditional tales. Today we have worked in groups to produce a play and performed this for our peers. Such fun!

The Water Cycle
This afternoon Year 2 have been looking at The Water Cycle. They had fun using costumes to dress up and performed a drama reinforcing the learning objective Water Cycle.

12 Days of Christmas
Today the children enjoyed learning the traditional song and actions along to "12 Days of Christmas!"

Literacy Detectives
In Literacy lessons, Year 2 studied clues to our next story. They were excellent detectives many guessing correctly that the text is The Night Before Christmas.

Special Guest - Father Christmas!
Guess what! We had a special visitor today it was only the big guy himself! We were able to ask Father Christmas questions and he kept us updated on the reindeers especially naughty Rudolph! Excitement grew this afternoon as we visited the Christmas fair which included many treats and fun activities!

Walk to West Kirby War Memorial
Year 1 and Year 2 visited the local War Memorial today. They enjoyed an Autumnal walk and did some observational sketching. Next we looked at the physical geography of the Wirral . We then had a two minute silence to reflect and show respect. Lest we forget.

Exploring Chester Zoo
On Tuesday Key Stage 1 enjoyed a trip to Chester Zoo. While there the children had a great time exploring the enclosures and see all the different animals that they have been learning about in science! We also had a lovely time in the Education Hub were the children learnt all about how to identify living things and classify animals according to their characteristics. They particularly enjoyed going around each table and completely the quizzes. They all had a great time and we were fortunate enough to have good weather as well!

Using Instructions in the EYFS Garden
Today Year 2 continued their work on instructions with a practical activity in the EYFS Garden. They made a Hedgehog Hibernation Box following written instructions. All the children enjoyed this activity. In Year 2 we are showing that we care for nature.

Zoo Lab Fun!
Today KS1 had a visit from Zoo Lab. The presenter Chris was very impressed with the children’s knowledge and enthusiasm. They looked at molluscs, insects, arachnids, myriapods, amphibians and reptiles They learnt a great deal and thoroughly enjoyed the interactive experience.

European Day of Languages
On Monday, Year 2 enjoyed going from class to class experiencing different countries for European Language Day. They enjoyed traditional food from each country as well as learning about different cultures!
